Located in a picturesque setting near the River Wear, the stadium is known for its seam-friendly pitch conditions and has hosted several international matches, including games in ICC Cricket World Cups and T20 Internationals. Since its opening, the stadium has undergone multiple expansions and upgrades to improve spectator facilities and accommodate larger crowds for major events. Despite being one of England?s smaller Test venues, it remains an important part of the country's cricketing infrastructure.
