The Hopman cup was founded in 1989, played in Hardcourt indoor tennis tournament played in January every year. This tournament is famously known as ITF World Mixed Team Championship as it is a mixed team tournament on country basis. It is named after the legendary Australian late Harry Hopman, who has won 15 Davis cup titles for his country. This is a authorized event in the calendar of International Tennis Federation, but players results are not considered in Tennis World Rankings.

Eight countries selected every year to compete in this tournament and are separated in to 2 groups of 4 teams. Each team plays three other teams in their group and leaders of each group will compete in the finals. If any player is injured then a player of that national team with lesser world ranking can be called on as a substitute.

Team consists of one men and one women player, there will be one women's singles match, men's singles match and one mixed doubles match. Winning team receives a silver cup and members of the team receive a tennis ball shaped trophy encrusted with diamonds.
